La devise olympique - plus vite, plus rapide, plus fort - a pour objectif d’inspirer les athlètes à améliorer leurs performances et à tout donner lors des compétitions. Mais à notre époque, où être une star du sport signifie aussi gagner plusieurs millions de dollars, y a-t-il réellement un doute quant au rôle joué par les anabolisants dans les compétitions sportives? Les organisateurs des Jeux de Pékin et le Comité international Olympiques seront-ils capables de garder des Jeux “propres”?

Souvent critiquées par le passé, les instances sportives et civiles chinoises ont entrepris de plus en plus de contrôles sur ses athlètes. Plusieurs médias, dont Radio Chine Internationale ou le journal La-Croix, mentionnent les sanctions prises cette semaine contre huit sportifs chinois. Selon ces rapports de presse des athlètes comme le nageur Ouyang Kunpeng et le lutteur Luo Meng, des sportifs qui comptaient parmi les meilleurs espoirs de la Chine dans leur sport, ont été bannis à vie. La Chine affirme qu’avec de telles sanctions elle montre au monde sa détermination à vouloir éradiquer le dopage.

Chine Nouvelle présente comment les pharmacies ont été invitées à la prudence lorsqu’elles vendent des produits contenant des agents dopants. Dans le même temps, des inspecteurs ont parcouru le pays pour contrôler les fabricants et distributeurs de produits médicamenteux pour les Jeux, écrit le Quotidien du Peuple. Le Herald Tribune décrit comment ceux pris en flagrant délit de fabriquer, de vendre ou de distribuer des produits contenant des agents dopants ont été punis.

Le Comité International Olympique a déclaré que jamais les moyens pour lutter contre dopage n’ont atteint un tel haut-niveau, publie pour sa part Sports Illustrated. Cette fois, les vasyes mesures, comme celle de permettre le test d’athlètes peu importe où il se trouve durant la quinzaine olympique, devraient pouvoir maintenir la menace de cas de dopage à son strict minimum.
