L’émergence de la Chine comme acteur majeur de l’économie mondiale a des répercussions sur le commerce et les flux monétaires. A mesure que sa puissance économique augmente, son influence sur les évènements mondiaux s’amplifie. Comment la Chine répond-t-elle à son nouveau rôle ?
Radio Chine Internationale rapporte que la récente déclaration d’indépendance du Kosovo concerne au premier chef le gouvernement chinois. Selon le Herald Tribune, le Kosovo pourrait représenter un précédant pour Taiwan. Ce sentiment est repris dans les colonnes du Baltimore Sun.
Il a été demandé à Pékin de jouer un rôle de médiateur dans la crise du Darfour. Le China Daily indique que le premier ministre, Wen Jiabao, a défendu la position de la Chine devant le premier ministre britannique, Gordon Brown, lors d’un entretien téléphonique. La Chine est la première nation, non africaine, à avoir envoyé des troupes de maintien de la paix dans ce pays ravagé par la guerre, s’est défendu le ministre chinois.
L’AFP, rapporte, pour sa part, que l’envoyé spécial chinois au Darfour aurait demandé aux autres nations d’exercer une "influence positive" sur les dirigeants rebelles, dont la plupart vit dans les capitales occidentales. Un article du Canberra Time se demande ouvertement ce que la Chine aurait pu faire de plus que ce qu’elle a déjà fait.
La communauté internationale attend également de la Chine une plus grande implication dans la résolution de la crise au Myanmar. Le quotidien du peuple affirme que le représentant de l’ONU au Myanmar, Ibrahim Gambari, a félicité Pékin pour son "rôle constructif "sur le dossier. Reuters ajoute que le même représentant a souligné l’importance des "signaux adéquats" envoyés par la Chine au Myanmar, alors que le pays se prépare à des reformes politiques d’envergure.
